A typographic exercise in formatting body copy, in which I had to format a page of pre-existing copy and create a drop cap for the first letter. This is an excerpt from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, one of my favorite books in the series. For Harry Potter fans reading this, you will recognize Harry's stag Patronus as the drop cap, which I chose in reference to Harry teaching Dumbledore's Army the Patronus charm.

A prototype of a bus app for kids just starting to navigate public transportation systems independently, or for anyone who wants a little extra whimsy injected into their commute. Bus Buddy has an array of characters that one can select to be their guide to the public transportation system. They will be with you every step of the way of your commute, from using AR technology to show you how to walk to the stop and which bus is yours, to precise location services that tells you which stop to get off as you’re riding. Bus Buddy also has an Arrival Confirmation feature for parents of kids who might be unwilling to text their anxious parents saying that they got there safely, which is located under the settings tab. This is a part of a group project in which we designed methods of retaining Wilderness First Aid knowledge, including a card game, streamlined resource material that can easily be taken on trips, and a computer game. I was in charge of creating the computer game prototype, which presents scenarios to the player that walk them through the initial contact with the patient all the way to making a plan for evacuation. For more detailed information on our goals, deliverables, and process for this project, go to the Process tab of my website and look through the Safety Third Process Book.

A booklet I created revolving around the history and landmarks of Fremont, one of Seattle’s more unique neighborhoods. Click on the link below to read it!
These are some mockups of merchandise that I designed to go along as companion pieces with the Fremont booklet. I chose a tote bag because they are useful and trendy, a flag because Fremont is both decorative and prideful, and frisbees because Fremont residents are active and frisbee is an alternative sort of athletic activity.

An assignment in which I had to create a magazine spread out of a short essay. I made this spread using excerpts of copy from William Cronon’s essay, The Trouble with Wilderness.

An assignment in which I had to create a collection of products that served a common purpose. I chose to create a sleeping bag design that could double as a foraging guide for edible mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest. The sleeping bag bag is designed to look like a log with fungus growing out of it.

Another item in the mushroom collection, I designed this water bottle so that the heights of the mushrooms corresponded with the milliliter measurement of water.
